The new chairman has served five years on the board, and brings more than 30 years of professional experience to the post.

Minneapolis, Minnesota — February 1, 2017 — John Langan, chief industry officer for CliftonLarsonAllen’s (CLA) public sector group, has been elected chair of the firm’s board of directors for 2017, and three new board members have been elected to three-year terms.

“I am honored by my fellow board members’ confidence in me to lead our critical work on behalf of the owners of CLA,” Langan said.

“We have complete confidence in John’s leadership and vision for the firm,” said Denny Schleper, chief executive officer for CLA. “We look forward to working with him and the rest of the board of directors in guiding CLA to the next level.”

Langan comes to the chairman’s position after more than 30 years of accounting industry experience and dedication to serving nonprofit organizations. As chief industry officer for the public sector group, he is responsible for implementing the firm’s strategic visions for the nonprofit, state and local government, higher education, federal government, and employee benefit practices of CLA — including industry specialization, seamless service integration, career building, and client resource development — across 100 offices and six regions of CLA.

Before joining CLA in 2006, Langan founded and led Langan Associates, a Washington, DC-based, nonprofit-focused accounting and consulting firm for 17 years. Over the span of his career, he has served and consulted with a who’s who of national nonprofit organizations, including United Way Worldwide, Boys & Girls Clubs, Junior Achievement, American Society of Association Executives, Catholic Charities, and many more. He has served on the CLA board of directors since 2012.

Langan is an active member of the community, serving as a trustee and chair of the audit committee for Lynn University; chair of the finance committee for Dunbar Alexandria Olympic Boys & Girls Club; and treasurer for the Pentagon Memorial Fund.

Elected to the CLA board of directors for the first time are Scott Dietzen, chief practice officer for the Mountain West region; Jen Leary, managing principal of office in Charlotte; and Gregg Draeger, chief practice officer for the Midwest region. Matt Claeys, managing principal of office in Dallas, was re-elected to a second term on the CLA board and elected by the board to serve as board secretary for 2017. Other board members currently serving are Bill Petri, managing principal of office in Denver; John Richter, chief strategy officer; Denny Schleper, chief executive officer; and Lori Sims, chief tax officer. Larry Taylor, chief practice officer for the Southwest Region — who recently joined CLA with the January 1, 2017, acquisition of GALLINA, LLP — has been invited to attend and participate in meetings of the board through 2018.
