Please join us for CLA’s 2025 Government Training Academy! This in-person event can help you gain knowledge and insight in various areas impacting local governments in Minnesota. 

Topics to be discussed include GASB updates, ethics, legislative updates on cannabis, Minnesota compliance updates on payroll and benefits, preparing for significant changes in OMB’s Uniform Guidance, economic updates, and cybersecurity threats and prevention. 

At the end of this session, you’ll be able to: 

  • Identify the new GASB standards up to GASB 104
  • Discuss real-life ethics case studies
  • Identify the current state of cannabis legislation in Minnesota
  • Explain recent changes to Minnesota statutes regarding paid family leave, pay transparency, and Minnesota earned sick and safe time

During this session, participants will gain an understanding of new GASB standards up to GASB 104, as well projects on the Governmental Accounting Standards Board’s current agenda.

In this session, participants will gain an understanding of real-life ethics case studies and explore the characteristics of an ethical organization. They’ll also examine key factors that contribute to maintaining high ethical standards within an organization.

2:10 – 3 p.m. — Cybersecurity Threats and Prevention

Speaker: David Anderson

During this presentation, CLA will provide an overview of cybersecurity trends impacting government agencies. These will include ransomware attacks and email compromises that allow threat actors to impact operations and steal money. Details on mitigation strategies will be provided to help organizations recognize leading practices to reduce the likelihood and impact of these risks.
