Building financial strength for generations to come
The NAFOA Annual Conference brings together Tribal finance leaders, economic development professionals, policymakers, and partners from across Indian Country for two days of timely, practical discussion focused on strengthening Tribal economies and advancing sovereignty.
Attendees can expect general sessions and in‑depth breakouts covering topics such as tribal tax and investment policy, energy project financing, AI and data centers in Tribal communities, governance and financial management practices, and real‑world approaches to sustainable economic development — all designed to translate policy and trends into actionable takeaways.
The 2026 agenda emphasizes hands‑on learning, peer exchange, and policy insight, with ample opportunities to connect directly with Tribal leaders, federal and industry stakeholders, and technical advisors working at the intersection of finance, infrastructure, and sovereignty.
This year’s conference also sets the stage for a broader week of learning, seamlessly leading into the Tribal Clean Energy Finance Forum later in the week for those looking to extend their stay and deepen their focus on energy and infrastructure finance.
On Monday, April 27, don’t miss “Capitalizing on Capital Assets” featuring CLA’s Lupita Martinez:
This session will explore key components of capital assets — which are some of the largest investments made by Tribal governments. From budgeting and financing to construction and disposal, these assets require oversight throughout their entire lifecycle, as well as strong governance and long-term financial foresight.
Speakers will cover planning, community engagement, financing, accounting/depreciating, and disposing — including when the asset was purchased with federal funds.
