Overview
Caroline Stoess is a Signing Director in CLA’s National Accounting for Income Taxes (NAIT) group, where she helps clients manage the financial reporting complexities of income taxes under ASC 740. She works closely with client teams to ensure tax positions are accurately reflected in financial statements and supported with clear, audit-ready documentation.
Caroline advises on complex income tax accounting matters, including tax provision preparation and review, uncertain tax positions, valuation allowances, and the accounting impacts of business transactions. She brings technical insight in a practical way, helping clients make informed decisions, remain compliant, and maintain confidence in their reporting.
She also helps clients understand how changes in tax law affect their income tax accounting and what steps to take next. Her focus is on results: improving the tax provision process, reducing risk, and establishing consistent, repeatable approaches that can stand up to audit scrutiny.
Caroline primarily serves private and middle market companies, including private equity-backed businesses and organizations in technology and bioscience, food and beverage, manufacturing and distribution, and various other industries. She helps these clients streamline processes, strengthen documentation, and deliver timely, reliable financial reporting.
Prior to joining CLA, Caroline spent seven years with a Big 4 firm, where she provided consulting and compliance services with a focus on income tax accounting, including two years in the National Tax Practice. She then spent two years as a manager in the tax department of a multinational Fortune 500 company, where she helped lead the tax return and tax provision processes.
