Carey Heyman

Overview

Carey Heyman serves as CLA's Managing Principal of Service – Tax and is a member of the firm's national tax leadership team. In this role, he helps shape the strategic direction of the firm's business, individual, and specialty tax services. He also collaborates with industry and geographic leaders across the firm to drive growth, strengthen client and referral source relationships, and connect clients with the full breadth of CLA's tax and advisory capabilities.

Previously, Carey led CLA's real estate industry as Managing Principal of Industry, advising owners, operators, developers, syndicators, sponsors, and family offices throughout the investment life cycle. That experience continues to inform his work with privately held businesses, investors, and their owners.

During his tenure leading CLA's real estate industry, Carey became a frequent source for national business, tax, and commercial real estate media outlets. Today, he provides insight on legislative, economic, and market developments affecting business owners, investors, family offices, and real estate stakeholders. His work has been featured by Bloomberg Tax, U.S. News & World Report, The New York Post, MSN, The Business Journals, GlobeSt, Commercial Property Executive, IPE Real Assets, Crain Currency, FundFire, Connect CRE, and other leading publications. He has also appeared on industry podcasts and contributed to discussions on tax policy, opportunity zones, capital markets, housing, and private capital.

Carey is also a regular contributor and editor of CLA's Real Estate Industry Insights blog, where he helps translate tax legislation, market developments, and industry trends into practical guidance for clients and stakeholders.

In addition to his media and publishing contributions, Carey frequently serves as a moderator, panelist, podcast guest, and speaker for organizations such as Bisnow, IMN, NAIOP, and GreenPearl. Through these engagements, he facilitates conversations on investment strategy, capital formation, tax policy, and the trends shaping privately held businesses and real estate markets.
