Century City, Calif. — CLA (CliftonLarsonAllen), one of the leading professional services firms in the U.S., is pleased to announce that Tayiika M. Dennis, a principal at CLA’s Century City location, was named first vice chair for the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CalCPA) State Board.
As first vice chair, Dennis looks to bring a fresh, diverse perspective to the role, with an eye to her responsibilities as an advocator, connector, and mentor.
“I am honored to serve as first vice chair for CalCPA,” said Dennis. “My involvement with CalCPA over the years has allowed me to create opportunities for my clients and for the accounting profession. Our profession has been resilient in a year of change, and I am privileged to support our members and inspire the next generation of CPAs.”
“I also take my responsibilities as a leader, especially as a woman of color, as an honor of being a trailblazer for those who will come behind me.”
Dennis took office effective July 30, 2021, for a one-year term. She has been involved with CalCPA for more than 10 years, and most recently served as the secretary/treasurer of the State Board. She has also served as Finance Committee chair; Investment Committee chair; on the State Board of Directors; State Council; Not-for-Profit Organizations Conference Planning Committee; Leadership Institute; as the Los Angeles Chapter president, vice president, and treasurer; on the Los Angeles Chapter Nonprofit Committee, Young and Emerging CPAs, Scholarship Committee, and Nominations Committee. She is also a recipient of the CalCPA Women to Watch Award.
“The accounting profession is at a critical juncture,” said CalCPA’s interim president and CEO Richard Simitian in a statement.
“Ty brings deep experience and governance knowledge to the CalCPA Board, which builds off her prior role as secretary/treasurer. We’re excited to work with her in her new role and thank her for her continued service to the CPA profession in California.”
Dennis has more than 20 years of experience in both public accounting and private industry. She provides audit and tax services for nonprofit organizations, with a special focus on social service organizations, arts and cultural organizations, and private foundations. Prior to joining CLA, she worked at a large international CPA firm, a regional CPA firm, and at Universal Studios as a financial analyst.
CalCPA traces its heritage to 1903 when the California State Society of Certified Public Accountants was organized. In 1909, it merged with two other state CPA associations to form CalCPA and now serves more than 45,000 members in public practice, private industry, academia and government, as well as college and university students, and has 14 chapters across California. CalCPA also offers more than 1,400 live courses, conferences, webcasts, and on-demand self-study courses annually.
