Kathleen Thies

Overview

Kathleen is the Principal in Charge of CLA's SALT – Direct Services practice. With more than 20 years of state and local tax experience, she advises multinational companies and complex flow-through entity structures on income and franchise tax matters across all 50 states.

Kathleen's practice centers on helping multistate service providers and technology companies design and implement tax planning strategies around state revenue sourcing, apportionment, and entity-level elections. Before joining CLA, she honed her technical expertise at Arthur Andersen and Deloitte and served as a state tax analyst for a legal publishing company—a combination that gives her a distinctive, research-grounded perspective on emerging SALT issues.

She is known for translating intricate, multi-jurisdictional tax rules into clear, actionable guidance that drives measurable savings for her clients
