Curt Klotz

The thirty-year industry leader brings experience, innovative ideas, and thought leadership to CLA’s expanding nonprofit practice.

CLA is pleased to announce that Curtis Klotz will join its nonprofit industry group on December 3, 2018, as director of nonprofit innovation. Klotz was most recently vice president of finance and CFO at Propel Nonprofits in Minneapolis. He brings 30 years of experience in nonprofit finance, program, and board leadership to CLA’s national nonprofit team.

Klotz’s new role at CLA will be solidly grounded in the nonprofit consulting and business operations practice, in addition to advancing innovation and thought leadership in the industry.

“My best thinking in nonprofit finance has always emerged from my direct work as a nonprofit CFO and when working alongside other nonprofit leaders and staff,” Klotz says. “I am eagerly anticipating working with CLA team members whose paths I have crossed within the nonprofit sector for many years.”

Klotz will continue sharing his years of nonprofit finance experience by writing and speaking on financial strategy, innovation, systems design, and other topics as part of CLA’s ongoing commitment to thought leadership in the industry. On November 14, he will present a workshop called FASB Reimagined: Revolutionizing Compliance at the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits Annual Conference.

In a recent post on Propel Nonprofits’ blog, he shared his vision for a succession plan for more diverse finance and accounting leadership in the nonprofit sector. He expects the move to CLA will help him realize this vision.

“We’re extremely pleased to have Curt join us as a creative, inventive advocate for nonprofits and the power of their impact in our communities,” says John Tauer, managing principal at CLA. “As a firm, CLA is dedicated to creating opportunities for nonprofits and supporting their efforts to reshape, refine, and strengthen their organizations. We believe Curt’s contributions can help us bring innovative ideas to nonprofits across the country so they can be more effective in achieving their missions.”

A CPA, Klotz was named Minneapolis St. Paul Biz Journal’s Nonprofit CFO of the Year in 2017. He has also contributed numerous articles to Propel Nonprofits’ blog, and is a frequent online contributor to Nonprofit Quarterly.
