CLA was honored to present at the CUNA/NASCUS Cybersecurity Conference. This event offered the latest information about keeping your credit union safe from the constant threat of cyber-attacks. Our cybersecurity professionals took a deep dive into the following topics:

Cybersecurity Emerging Trends and Threats

Speaker: Randy Romes

As credit unions mature their cybersecurity hygiene, hardening defenses and refining detection and response, so too do the bad actors continue to learn and evolve. This session surveyed the developments in cybersecurity attacks and intrusions since the 2018 conference. From the latest in ransom ware, social engineering, and distributed denial of service, to the attacker profiles of vandals, fraudsters, and nation states, attendees gained an understanding of current threat landscape, and a jump start on their efforts counter those threats.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the latest threat developments
  • Learn where credit unions can focus valuable risk mitigation resources
  • Develop a framework on knowledge to plan future security efforts

Understanding the CIS 20

Speaker: Randy Romes

The Center for Internet Security (CIS) is the authority on cybersecurity preparedness and controls. CIS regularly updates “security controls,” which is a list of 20 actions any organization can take that will defeat over 80% of the most common cyberattacks. This session focused on the most recently updated CIS 20 controls, and how they can be implemented to enhance an organization's security profile. The CIS 20 are constantly evolving and changing, so maintaining a current understanding of the controls is essential to any security professional.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain an understanding of the CIS framework and how it fits in with other standards
  • Be better prepared to mitigate or prevent future cyber attacks
  • Develop a framework within which to evaluate a credit union's cyber hygiene

The ABCs of Hardening the Network
