12 – 1:30 p.m.

Budgeting, hiring and firing, and executive oversight: are they board responsibilities, staff responsibilities, or both?

Generally, both the board and staff interact with these and other functions of your organization. But what is the best way to ensure adequate oversight while granting staff the appropriate amount of autonomy?

During this session you and your peers will discuss these and other scenarios and share best practices, experiences, and things to think about as you manage your board/staff relationship.

At the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Recognize governance best practices
  • Identify common governance versus management challenges and have ideas on how to mitigate such situations
  • Locate additional resources regarding governance and management

Who should attend

This session is designed for executive directors, CEOs, CFOs, board members, controllers, financial managers, treasurers, and other nonprofit decision makers.

  • Brian Peterson, consulting manager
