  • Identify common fraud schemes and how ethics and integrity are possible in today’s world
  • Outline current IT security risks impacting local governments
  • Identify common audit findings related to procurement under the Uniform Guidance
  • Identify guidance related to GASB 87 – Leases and GASB 96 — what are the impacts of these standards on financial statements and users of financial statements
  • Recall what being prepared for the audit really means

8:10 – 9 a.m. GASB update (all GASBs outside of 87/96)

Presenter: Jonathan Sherwood, Principal

During this session, participants will be briefed on the new accounting standards affecting state and local government, determine dates of implementation, outline some of the challenges related to implementation, and be updated on additional GASB projects on the horizon.

9 – 9:50 a.m. Economic update

We will discuss common fraud schemes and how to develop an environment conducive to the prevention of fraud. We will also discuss how ethics and integrity are possible in today’s world and how to confront the ethical challenges you face every day.

During this session, participants will be updated on the current events in IT security impacting local governments as well as how an IT department assessment may benefit their organization.

During this session, participants will be updated on common auditing findings related to procurement under the Uniform Guidance.

1:20 – 2:10 p.m. GASB 87/96, including operational impacts

Presenter: Mary Reedy, Principal
Recommended CPE: 1 credit Accounting (Governmental)

During this session, participants will review the guidance related to GASB 87 – Leases and GASB 96 – Subscription Based Information Technology Arrangements and the impacts of these standards on financial statements and the users of financial statements.

2:10 – 3 p.m. Audit preparedness, common findings, and common adjustments

Presenter: Troy Gabler, Manager
Recommended CPE: 1 credit Auditing (Governmental)

During this session, participants will review what it takes to be prepared for your external auditors, types of common audit findings, and common audit adjustments.
